My Coffee Stop - Featured Retailer of the Week

Interested to know more about the great independent retailers we work with? Every week we will be showcasing one of the fantastic additions to the Loyalli network. To kick it off we caught up with Karen Mercer, the co-founder of  My Coffee Stop in Enfield;

My Coffee Stop - Featured Retailer of the Week

Karen and Gunter, My Coffee Stop Enfield
How did you get into your business?

I stumbled into the coffee shop business, from being a traffic and travel reporter for Radio stations
all over the UK, including Heart FM, LBC 97.3, as well as BBC London, Talk Sport and Classic FM, I was pregnant with our second child and my partner Gunter suggested that we open up a coffee shop. Gunter has a strong background in the hospitality industry having owned his own bar in Austria and then came over to the UK and managed several different coffee shops, including at The Royal Veterinary College.

Where can we find you?

Platform 1, Enfield Chase Station, Windmill Hill, Enfield, Middlesex, EN2 7AA

Why that location?

There are positives and negatives about the location and that applies to any location really! We are right at the end of a train station platform, a location from the beginning that we knew would be a challenge, we felt we could turn the disused space into something so warm and welcoming, a place that would be a real pleasure for people to come to, even if they didn't need the train!

My Coffee Stop has developed into a real community hub were people make strong local connections and new friends and being tucked away at the end of a train station platform makes the experience all the more magical.

What is your favourite item on your menu?

Nearly everyday that we are open I treat myself to a Nutri-licious smoothie, made with coconut milk, hemp protein powder, cashew nut butter, cinnamon, ginger and a handful of berries, sometimes a banana too and some gluten-free oats. It's absolutely delicious, I can drink it on the go, it's a very low GI and is full of goodness and is Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free and Sugar-Free!

Gunter's favourite item is the latte!

What is the most popular item amongst customers?

Our customers absolutely love our Cappuccinos and Lattes, so My Coffee Stop is a very apt name for us.

The most popular combination is coffee and a chunky slice of our homemade Breakfast Cake, which we make on the premises and is a whole lot healthier and less sugary than most commercial cereals, we like to think if you are going to indulge in cake, then ours is must be the healthiest way to do it.

Do you have any exciting plans for 2013?

Funny you should say that! February 2013 will be our fourth birthday and by that time, we would expect to have expanded into the waiting room area next door, where we will have a larger area to hold our back to back art exhibitions and also display work by local crafters, we will also be holding social media workshops in the new space and allowing other groups in the community to use the space in the afternoons, or evenings for activities such as knitting and art classes. So, yes, we are very excited about our plans for 2013!

Why did you join Loyalli?

I found out about Loyalli on Twitter and I'm very attracted to innovative ideas that create a win-win situation. Loyalli is such a brilliant idea and right from the word go, our customers with smart phones really enjoyed using it, as well as enjoyed not having to search for an old card taking up room in their wallet.

What is your Loyalli offer?

Pop into the shop 10 times to buy something, scan your phone each time, then when your card is full, you get any hot drink FREE!

Thanks Karen! We wish you all the best for 2013!
